report parameter order
after changing the order of my report parameters (in this example test)
in the menue via the up and down arrow I get the following error
message:
an error occured during local processing. an error occured during
report processing. the value expression for the query parameter 'date'
contains an error: the expression referenced a non-existing parameter
in the report parameters collection.
anybody knows how to do this?
thanksIt sounds like you have either:
A) deleted a parameter which was there before, or more likely
B) changed the sequence required for cascading parameters, i.e. parameters
where one value depends on another one previously entered. It is probably
something to do with one of your report parameters' 'available values' or
'default values' definitions.

modifie the rdl file and swith the Report Parameters.
Any ideas instead of writing the whole report once again?

You should then be able to add back in your deleted parameter and move it in
to the correct position.

Report parameter - First day of last month/last day of month
for a monthly report I need two dates as parameter defaults:
The first day of the last month
and
the last day of last month
If I run a report on - let's say March 1st, I can get the last day of the
last month with
=Today.AddDays(-1)
and the first day of the last month with
=Today.AddMonths(-1)
However, I need these paramers to work every day. For example, I want to be
able to run the report on March 3rd or March 15th, and the report should also
have February 1st and February 28th as start and end dates.
How can I do this?
Thank you for helping,
MartinHi Martin,
This will work everyday. start and end date of last month.
start date - str(year(today)) + "/" + str(month(today)-1) + "/1"
End Date - dateadd("d",-1, (str(year(today)) + "/" + str(month(today)) +
"/1"))
Now the date format ie dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy etc... I hope you can change it.

Report Page Width with Dynamic columns through parameters
************************************************************************
You could easily set up a parameter for each column and then display that column conditionally based on the parameter.
For instance, if you have a column that displays First Name, you could have a parameter called DisplayFirstName. Then in design view you'd select the whole FirstName column and in the Visibility-Hidden property set it to :
=iif( Parameters!DisplayFirstName.Value = false, true, false )
This could easily become a big, unwieldy report, though, if you have a great number of dynamic columns. Also, The width of the report is set at design time, and it includes the width of all your columns, not just the visible ones. This could cause you some pagination problems.
************************************************************************
That is exactly my problem. I have lots of dynamic columns which causes the width of the report to be wide. Thus even though at run time the report only shows columns within a page, the report itself consists of a lot of white spaces after the selected columns. Does anyone know a solution to this? If not, I guess creating the rdl with code manually is the only way? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I summarize your requirement that I have understood and based on that I given you my comment if my understanding is wrong then let me know.
Your requirement is to design a report in which columns are visible on some condition or dynamically. You have design the report and set the column property visible = ‘TRUE’ OR FALSE based on the condition. Let assume the problem is that when col1 is visible that time col2 is invisible due to this a white space is left in place of col2 and you want to remove that white space.
My comment:
Take the above scenario if col1 is visible and col2 is invisible and vice a versa then place the col2 over col1 so then col2 is visible then col1 will be invisible and if the col1 is visible then col2 is invisible. And you will not see any white pace in the report.
|||Hi mverma,First let me thank you for replying to me. Let me clarify my requirements just to make sure what you are proposing would solve my problem.
I have a report, which at design time, would span 2 physical pages (17 inches), with each column being the same width.
Now, the columns' visibility is toggled by parameters passed to the report page during run time.
Now the problem.
Lets say for one of the report we pass in parameters to toggle on columns 1,3,5,7, so the total width would be 8.5 inches, which would fit exactly on one page. So when choosing to print, it would print one page with the 4 columns (with no spaces between the columns), and one blank page. The blank page is printed because, during design time, the report is set to be 17 inches wide, thus even only 8.5 inches of the report contains columns, the whole 17 inches are still printed.
You solution seems to solve the problem of white spaces in between columns that are visible and invisible, but my problem is that though all the columns are neatly next to each other, spaces are still accounted for the invisible columns are at the end of the table.
Now, if I misunderstood your solution and it actually does solve my problem, could you please provide more details or a link as to how to "stack" one column on top of another during runtime. Nevertheless, thanks again for your reply.

I have another option suppose according to the passing parameter report generate value for 1,3,5,7 etc and for next parameter value it will generate report based on 2,4,6,8. Then you can take two table one is design for 1,3,5,7 and next one is designed used by 2,4,6,8 column when parameter passed for 1,3,5,7 then set visibile='true' for this table and set visibile= 'false' for another table that we don't want. Place table one over other so that you need not to worry about the white space.
Does this help you to achive your requirment ?

Manoj Verma.
|||Hi Manoj Verma,Thanks for replying. I do not think your suggestion would work because my example was a watered downed one. Our actual need is a 40 columns dynamic report, where users can choose any of the 40 columns. Thanks again for your input.

Report Model Deployment Error

The solution is to delete model from server (using Report Manager or Management Studio)before deploying.|||Yes, I had the same problem. Surely a deploy would be able to deal with this automatically?|||Deploy tries not to override existing model with completely different model.

report model and it's datasource
hi everyone,
I created a report model and deployed it. When I open the rpt builder on web I get the following error.
'The selected data source does not have and content available'
Seemed like it would be a easy issue, but I cannot retrieve any data in the rpt model. The datasource I'm using does work for rpts not associated with the rpt model. Any suggestions? It seems like I've missed a step. Thanks, Lisa

I am using SSE2005 SP2
What can I do to fix this? This is a production server that is very precisely configured, so I can't just format and reinstall everything (this would take DAYS)
Please please help!!! : )
Turn (temporarily) assembly binding logging on with the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLogHKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog key as mentioned above, or download this tool which does the same thing:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/e74a18c4(VS.80).aspx
Cause the error to occur while you are generating the log and you should get a good idea of what's going on...The log will tell you WHAT file it is trying to load and WHERE it is looking for the file...
|||I can not get assembly bind failure logging to work... am I missing something? No matter what settings I set, the error message still says that logging is off.. : (|||So, the tool won't work for you either?|||Correct. The bind logging works, but the error page still states that it is off, and no errors are logged.. : (
Could this be a problem with my .net 2.0 installation?
|||Ahhhh... didn't know I had to restart IIS to enable logging ;)

OK, I see my version of this file in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin
Do you see "your" copy here (the log says it's trying to find it there -- ):
URL file:///C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSQL.2/Reporting Services/ReportManager/bin/ReportingServicesWebServer.DLL
Also, what users have permissions to get into this folder?
|||Oh yeah, you also might want to try downloading / installing filemon from sysinternals to see if the attempt to grab this file by SSRS is failing due to permissions issues on the folder....|||I'm using procmon... the problem is really that the file isn't there... but if I put it there, I get this :
Server Error in '/Reports' Application.

|||Hmm...I realize I pasted the wrong string in...you should have your dll in ReportServer/Bin (not ReportManger)
C:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSQL.2/Reporting Services/ReportServer/bin/
I don't know if that will make a difference with the other errors you're seeing, but the dll should be in ReportServer/Bin...
Did you have any problems installing the 2.0 Framework on this machine and/or VS 2005 Sp1?
|||The DLL is there, for some reason it doesn't seem to be looking in the reportserver folder...
I tried to uninstall .NET 2.0 but it says it won't do it because it will disable applications (duh)
I might HAVE to thrash the server because I have to have this running in the next two weeks!
I'll keep noodling with it... if you think of anything else, let me know..
Report Manager Error
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote

This appears to be related to using SSL. If I point the config files

set the SecureConnectionLevel to 0 I don't get this error; however, I need
use SSL
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?

Report Manager error
report manager (/Reports/Home.aspx) gives the following:
ERROR.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
No other info is provided. I'm using SSL and RS SP2 is installed, SQL has
SP4. I've looked in the Reporting Services Log files but I don't see
anything there to help trap this error.
What "object" might this be? Any ideas about how to debug this?
Thanks,

Report Manager Config Error
I just installed RS and it seemed to go ok. But when I try to access the Report Manager at localhost\reports, I get the following error:
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
Parser Error Message: The XML file c:\winnt\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Config\machine.config could not be loaded. Attempted to access an unloaded AppDomain.
Source Error:
[No relevant source lines]
Source File: c:\winnt\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Config\machine.config Line: 0
----
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.573; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.573
I've tried to run the rsconfig utility several times, but nothing has helped so far.
Thanks for helping! This is an issue with your .net installation. Not sure what specifically is
causing this but searching google on the error should lead you in the right
direction.
