Report of Reports

Are there any example of SSRS reports using an rdl file as the source for the report. I.e. a Report of Reports?

Hi Freddie,

could you please elaborate a bit more?

thanks, 99

One way of doing this in RS 2005 is to render a report with the xml data rendering extension as xml document. This is then used as input for the xml data extension. However, getting the query setup correctly and working is a bit tricky. A specific sample and explanation for this approach will be available in an upcoming MSDN article about the RS 2005 Xml data extension later this summer.

Thanks Robert,

I did find an article "Integrate XML into Your Reporting Environment" by Bill Wolff at http://www.ftponline.com/special/sqlserver/bwolff/

I will be looking for the upcoming MSDN Article.

To elaborate more on my question...I would like to document my reporting service reports using reporting services. For example which property has custom code (e.g. IIF).

Report not exporting full file

I'm using RS sp1 and have a report that's 50 pages long and has 1000
thumbnail images in it (it serves as a products catalog). When I export as
a PDF or tif, only half the data is exported so in the case of the PDF it
cant open because it says its corrupt, and in the case of a tif, it will
open, but the 2nd half of the pages are missing. The downloaded files are
half the size they should be and when downloading, it say's its complete
after 25 seconds even though its downloaded half the data.
My setup:
1) When I run the report on my local machine and its using sql server and
the image files are stored on the local machine, the report will export
fine.
2) When I run the report from my local machine, but its calling sql server
on a remote server and the image file's paths are to the remote server the
report runs OK, but only half the data is exported.
3) When I run the report from the remote server only half the data is
exported.
Any ideas on what might be happening here?

moondaddy@.nospam.comI forgot to mention, if I export it to excel or a web archive I get the

If anyone has done this before please let me know.

Report Models Data Source View

How does the report model know what data source view to use? I could not find it defined anywhere in the .smdl file.

My problem is this. I have a Report Model project with two data sources, two data source views and multiple report models. When I try and bind a data source to an entity in the report model I do not get to choose which data source view to use to choose what table/view I want to bind the entity too and only the tables in one of my DSV's shows up. When I first created it, it worked fine. It automatically selected the correct view and table and was successfully created but now when I open the project, that correlation is lost.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated, thanks.

I found out that if I close my solution and reopen it, the mappings are fixed. Does anyone know if this is a bug or if I could be doing something wrong? I can not find any documentation anywhere describing how data models are mapped to data source views. I really wish you can manually specify what datasource view you want to be using for each model. The autogenerate is nice to initially create the model but if you have already altered the elements or attributes in the model it can be a hassle. Any thoughts?

Report Manager Web Client Security Error

I am attempting to access an Access database file located on one of our
servers on the network through Reporting Services Report Manager and am
receiving the error below. I have already setup our Report Server
Service account to a domain account that has full Access to the file. I
am able to run the report from Visual Studio.Net on my local machine. I
have setup and successfully deployed numerous SQL Server based reports
and am able to run an Access based report as long as it's located on my
report server. Any help anyone could provide is extremely appreciated.

I have not done this with RS, but I did have many problems connecting
asp pages to access using a DSN.
I ended up using a DSN-Less connection and it worked. I am not sure if
that is an option in RS though.

found that the problem I'm experiencing is a known problem with Access
and the Microsoft Jet database engine. My workaround was to create a
batch file on my report server that copies in the original Access
database file to the report server every hour. My datasource now
resides on my report server and is therefore accessible.

Report manager problem

I am getting the following error when trying to access the Report Manager:

The report server configuration file specifies localhost for the Web server name. The report server requires that the computer name be specified instead.

I have tried:

http://<computername>/reports

http://localhost/reports

I have gone into the report server configuration and tried to change the directory there, but with no affect. Is there something further that I need to be looking at?

Thanks for the information.

In the RSWebApplication.config file you should change the ReportServerUrl to not use localhost.

Report Manager Not Working

I am suddenly unable to access report manager :
http://localhost/ReportManager/Pages/Folder.aspx
I am getting the error :
Could not find file "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\_cm2qpki.dll".
The name of the DLL is different each time I try, but the end result
is the same. I can't find much on this. What I did find indicates a
lack of permission. I have tried accessing it with a couple of
different accounts (both were administrators on the server) and
security methods (anonymous access w/ an admin account, integrated
windows , digest, and basic authentication). I still get the same
error. This is Windows 2003 server, and SQL 2000. Any ideas? Thanks in
advance.

I must have searched the web for an hour and a half for this. As soon
as I posted this I found the solution right here on Google groups:
